THERMO-RIVETING SPECIAL MACHINE
Thermo riveting guarantees safe press fit One of the advantages which distinguishes the thermo riveting procedure from other assembly techniques is the safe press fit. Another advantage: the thermoplastic cannot embrittle as in the case of ultrasonic welding Apart from the well-established welding techniques for plastic parts in series, KLN Ultraschall GmbH also develops and produces in Heppenheim equipment for thermo riveting. This technique is still regarded as a very special procedure and has important advantages in comparison with ultrasonic, hot plate, vibration or spin welding. Thus it can be interesting for additional fields of application. This procedure is particularly applied for plastic parts having safety features. In contrast to the ultrasonic riveting, the thermo riveting can be applied without any problems for plate / plastic assemblies, as no swinging tools are touching the plates which could endanger the assembly. Especially for plastic parts which are very difficult to weld and tend to embrittle when being riveted by ultrasonic means, like POM or PAGF, the thermo riveting procedure results in a very high welding quality. The procedure is also of great use when it is absolutely necessary for safety reasons to avoid fouling of the parts by disconnection of embrittled particles. Regarding the procedure, a distinction has to be made between thermo-forming, hot stamping and thermo riveting. The most simple of these techniques is the thermo-forming where a hot stamp heats the rivet shank and in the same operation assembles under pressure the rivet head. The automobile industry for example uses the thermo riveting procedure in order to assemble airbag plate bracings with instrument panels made out of plastic. The high quality thermo riveting procedure allows a press fit of the parts to be assembled. In other procedures, the thermo riveting is used in the fields of telecommunication, for household devices and in the packaging industry.
